Porruthai's final defense

We are delighted to announce that Ms. Porruthai Boonswasd has successfully passed her doctoral dissertation defense. After nearly five years of dedicated research, her final presentation and discussion reflected a deep sense of fulfillment and confidence in the work she has accomplished. Her dissertation focused on designing a roadmap for a decarbonized society through service innovation, using the concept of XaaS (Everything-as-a-Service) as a central framework.

What made her research particularly distinctive was the integration of “Futures Literacy” – the ability to imagine and reason about diverse futures – into the process of generating service ideas. Working closely with industry experts through co-creation workshops, she formulated practical and imaginative service concepts aimed at promoting carbon neutrality in daily life. Among these, the idea of “Carbon Trading-as-a-Service (CTaaS)” stands out as a novel approach that empowers consumers to engage in decarbonization through behavior change and service participation.

To evaluate the long-term impact of such services, she employed scenario-based simulations using system dynamics modeling. The study examined optimistic, neutral, and pessimistic scenarios to explore how technological advancement, policy support, and societal engagement might influence CO₂ emissions reductions. This multi-layered, forward-thinking methodology added significant academic value to her work and offered actionable insights for both business and policy.

Her research has already been recognized through multiple peer-reviewed conference proceedings and journal publications. More importantly, the framework she developed presents a visionary yet pragmatic path toward aligning consumer behavior with climate goals. For Ms. Porruthai, this defense marks not the end of a journey, but the beginning of a new phase where her ideas may help shape a more sustainable future. このたび、当研究室のPorruthai Boonswasd（ポールタイ・ブンサワット）さんが、博士論文の最終審査会を無事に終え、見事合格されました。約5年にわたる博士課程の歩みの中で、彼女は一貫して「脱炭素社会の実現」に向けたサービスイノベーションの可能性を追究してきました。今回の審査会では、XaaS（Everything-as-a-Service）という新しい概念を用い、カーボンニュートラルに向けたロードマップを構築する研究成果を丁寧に説明し、審査委員からも高く評価されました。

特に注目すべきは、単に技術や市場の動向を並べるのではなく、「未来を想像する力（Futures Literacy）」を軸に据えて、産業界の専門家と共にワークショップ形式で創出したアイデアをもとに、革新的なサービス群を具体化していった点です。その中核にあるのが「カーボンクレジット取引のサービス化（CTaaS）」という構想で、これにより一般消費者が自らの行動変容を通じて脱炭素に貢献できる、新たな社会のしくみが提示されました。

また、これらのサービスが実際にCO₂排出に与える影響については、シナリオ分析とシステム・ダイナミクスという手法を用いて定量的な検証が行われました。技術進展や政策、社会運動の強さによって未来がどう変わるかを3つのシナリオに分けて分析し、それぞれの仮説に対して丁寧な議論を積み重ねた点も、学術的な意義の高さにつながっています。

こうした研究成果は、すでに国際学会や査読付きジャーナルでの発表を通じて世界に向けて発信されており、今後の実装と展開が強く期待されています。Porruthaiさんにとって、この最終審査は研究の「終わり」ではなく、新しい未来への第一歩となったことでしょう。心からの祝福を送りたいと思います。
