2009年に東京大学大学院総合文化研究科広域科学専攻博士課程を修了.博士(学術).2009年助教,2012年-2023年准教授,2023年より現職. 2010年からテキサス州立大学マーケティング研究科において客員研究員.サービスマーケティング研究者であるRaymond Fisk教授と共同研究を開始.現在は人間のウェルビーイングに焦点を当てたサービス研究領域であるTransformative Service Researchを推進.
これまでに,持続可能性をテーマにしたサービス活動のあり方について先進的地域コミュニティ活動を対象に研究.他にも,技術系企業・サービス企業の組織活性化に関する実証的研究,産学協同で脳計測装置を用いた人間の満足度評価研究を行っている.主な業績として, 知識科学とサービスの関係について『Progressive Trends in Knowledge and System-Based Science for Service Innovation』にまとめ,また和書では『技術経営の実践的研究』(分担,東大出版会),『横断型科学技術とサービス・イノベーション』(分担, 社会評論社)などがある.
Professor Kunio Shirahada is a leading scholar in service management and sustainability, currently serving as a Professor at the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Technology, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), and Visiting Professor at Keio University. He earned his Ph.D. in Arts and Sciences from the University of Tokyo in 2009 and has since developed an internationally recognized research program exploring the role of service-based value creation in achieving sustainable societies.
His academic foundation lies in marketing, innovation, and organizational knowledge science. From a service management perspective, Prof. Shirahada investigates how transformative services contribute to well-being, environmental sustainability, and the circular economy. His recent publications include works in Sustainable Production and Consumption, Business Strategy and the Environment, and the Journal of Service Theory and Practice, where he addresses topics such as green servitization, circular business models, and value co-creation for sustainable communities.
Prof. Shirahada serves as an editorial board member of several journals, including the IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management and the International Journal of Technology and Innovation Management. He also contributes to policy and industry through projects with companies such as Hitachi and Bridgestone, as well as municipalities pursuing service-based innovation.
He has received multiple JSPS grants as principal investigator, focusing on service design, aging society, and sustainable value co-creation. His interdisciplinary work bridges academic rigor and practical application, making significant contributions to global discussions on how service ecosystems can address 21st-century sustainability challenges.
Kunio Shirahada is professor in Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST). He received his Ph.D. at the University of Tokyo in 2009. His research interests include Transformative Service Research (service sustainability, community revitalization for collective well-being creation, service for the elderly), neuro-marketing using Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) technology, motivation management for service employees, and innovative organization design. He has published papers in the Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Technology in Society, Journal of Service Theory and Practice, Journal of Business Research, Int. J of Technology Management, Int. J of Automotive Technology Management, Int. J of Innovation and technology management, and other Japanese service related research papers. He presented his paper at Frontiers in Service Conference, QUIS, SERVSIG conference, Transformative consumer research conference, and PICMET (Portland International Conference on Management of Engineering and Technology).
